Fingerprints probably haven’t changed much over the years but the technology that collects and stores them has evolved dramatically. The messy process of inking fingerprints before rolling them onto collection cards has since been replaced with easier and much more speedy ways of “getting printed.” The Brandon biometrics company Automation Designs & Solutions is just one example of a company that specializes in identity management by developing software that captures and sends fingerprints to the state Crime Information Center, a database managed by the Mississippi Department of Public Safety. Today, many childcare facilities, hospitals, and law enforcement agencies use biometric mobile applications that connect with smartphones to scan fingerprints and immediately search massive online databases for proper identification and potential criminal records.
